Introduction
A new surface treatment method has been developed to enhance the anticorrosion properties of AZ31B magnesium alloy bar by applying a praseodymium (Pr)-based film on its surface. The study focused on investigating the film formation process under different conditions such as time, temperature, and pH. The composition of the Pr-based film was analyzed using various forms of microscopic technologies such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and contact angle (CA) test.
The generated Pr-based film on the surface of Mg-AZ31 alloy bar was extensively analyzed in-depth to ensure its efficiency in improving the alloy's anticorrosion properties. The results showed a surface morphology with improved hydrophobic properties that significantly reduced the rate of corrosion. The Pr-based film was found to be highly stable and corrosion-resistant, offering an excellent barrier against the infiltration of external agents.
In conclusion, the application of Pr-based film on the surface of AZ31B magnesium alloy bar revealed a promising outcome in improving its anticorrosion properties. The study opens a new window in further research for the development of efficient surface treatment methods for enhancing the durability of magnesium alloys.
